Michael Trucco tweeted at me! With bonus Joel McHale pic. :D

(He basically tweets at everybody, he loves his twitter, it's pretty adorable. Still SQUEE, two favorite shows, two embarrassingly crushable guys, when their powers combine they become Nicole Kryptonite.)

ATTENTION: My Six-loving soulmate [info]sunshine_queen is guest-modding [info]13th_tribe for the next two weeks, so make sure you head over there for some fabulous discussion of our favorite beautiful blonde (and occasionally brunette) Cylon! So far we're talking first impressions, favorite Sixes, and whether HeadSix can be considered one of them. I made a pie chart.

Speaking of Sixes, I spontaneously made a bunch of animated gifs of the scene in the miniseries where Caprica snapped the baby-sized neck of an actual baby, and let me tell you: staring at it frame-by-frame has made me love her tragic goddamn face even more somehow. Did I ever link to my freakout over that scene recently?

As long as I'm here, I had a couple of rambling things to say about TV this weekend.

The first is just a minor point about Game of Thrones that didn't hit me until the next day or so. on the Sansa/Hound scene, and non-reader reactions to it. I guess spoilers in terms of clearing-up-confusion? )

Also some thoughts on Sunday's polarizing Mad Men episode. Apart from everything Peggy, I was not a fan. :( metaphoooooor )

Dear flist, I'm going out right now but I'm still processing a bunch of unexpected, nonserious, fandom-related PAIN at the moment and would appreciate internet hugs, kittens, Sixes. Just putting it out in the universe. :...(

1. D*C is approaching in a few months, and as usual I've been faily about making plans... so can I get some comments and such about who is definitely going and staying where? (I do have a backup in a RL friend who'll be at the Westin I think.)

2. You guys, Community - which due to its weird-ass scheduling this season had three episodes last night, including the season finale - is basically my favorite show right now. (Anyone surprised by this underestimates how much sheer CRAZY I want on my TV.) It just makes me so happy, I'm gonna miss Thursday nights with it.

3. Speaking of, for anyone who missed it on Twitter, I decided to sort all the Community characters into Harry Potter houses, because it was surprisingly easy. (Final results: Britta and Troy in Gryffindor, Shirley (and Dean Pelton) in Hufflepuff, Abed and Annie in Ravenclaw, Jeff and Pierce in Slytherin.)

4. This led me to try to sort the Cylons, which was a FOOL'S ERRAND in comparison. Not only do the individual variations within models screw this up, but... well, as I said on tumblr:

The problem is that there are very few true Hufflepuffs among them. (Saul Tigh = Hufflepuff? *Maybe* Anders if I can keep him away from Gryffindor but he keeps flying into the fucking sun and I can't.) Like, I really want to make it even for the symmetry — twelve is divisible by four! There should be three in each, that way they can compete for the baseship house cup! But what we have is an overabundance of Ravenclaw-Slytherins here. That’s WHY THEY’RE MY KIDS.

5. I had a little more luck fitting them, as [info]juliedarling suggested, into the houses of Westeros. This is essentially what I scribbled on a piece of paper, trying not to overthink it:

Stark: Tigh?
Lannister: Tory/Sixes
Tully: Sam
Baratheon: Tyrol
Tyrell: Ellen
Martell: D'Anna
Targaryen: Eights Sixes
Greyjoy: Eights
Bolton/Frey: Cavil
Arryn: idk Doral? somebody high
WTF are the other houses
Daniel is Jon Snow's mom

Hey, guess who I just saw in an ad for that Steven Seagal show on Reelz? OUR OLD FRIEND, CAPTAIN KELLY! It really made me reminisce about the whole WTF arc of his tertiary BSG character.

A dramatic recap:

“I have some kind of important job in the miniseries”

[not seen for like two years]

“I hate Baltar, also lawyers, I will try to kill them all for no discernable reason.”

[not seen again for another year]

“Mutiny.”

[Fandom: Dude, did you get fitter all of a sudden?]

“No mutiny.”

(Still not as WTF as Romo's arc, because no dead cats or presidency.)

Random: My website is currently down due to a snafu with renewing my domain name - thought it was automatic but my card had expired. So I'm just now aware that my vids and a few other things (LJ mood theme) have been down for a couple of days, but they should be back soon. :)

A BSG parody of "Fuck You" by Cee Lo Green.

No, it's totally ridiculous and will hit all your filk embarrassment squicks, but the video is killing me and the most amazing and nerdiest thing ever. SAM. FINAL FIVERS ON BACKUP. I'M DYING.

I don't really know what to do with this, but... earlier this week, the prompt at BSG Epics was basically self-insert fic. Creating an OC in the fleet and what you think you/they would be doing in the series. I wrote 3 things! My Mary Sue is not quite me, but it was still cool to write in a completely self-indulgent way. And I will get back to third-person any day now. :-/

Meanwhile, I actually did something shockingly mainstream-fandom and I saw The Avengers this weekend - twice. not really spoilery, but cut for people who don't care about The Avengers )

Forgive me if I don't know what's happening on LJ lately, or if LJ is even a thing, but if enough interest is generated, GUESS WHAT'S COMING BACK?

TWELVE. COLONIES.

Our fandom's little old challenge comm is dusting off the cobwebs and looking for members, old or new. [info]goloptious has returned as mod, which means I would NOT be the person posting challenges (hallelujah) but rather the person piloting Team Basestar again.

If you're newer to BSG fandom (hi Epics people!) and never heard of [info]twelvecolonies before, this is for youuuu. Fans are split into Team Galactica, Team Colonial One, and Team Basestar, and compete for points in various challenges - whether that means creating drabbles or icons on a specific character/theme, writing haikus, playing hangman and puzzle games, or making the cover of a BSG children's book. (Still my favorite thing ever.) It's creative and social and a lot of fun.

If you *have* played before, I suggest joining up again, even if you're like "Whine whine I don't know if I'll be able to participate enough." Any participation is welcome, LJ in general has been pretty dead lately so it would be nice to see some activity again.

----------

Also I think all the [info]bsg_remix fics are up, and even though I haven't seen any "Guess the Author" posts yet, I'm sure one is coming soon. Someone remixed my fic "Give You All" into a 30,000 WORD EPIC from the perspective of Dee and Lida, which I think means I won.

(Edit: Guessing post is up!)

And Game of Thrones fans: if you're still trying to get over your trauma from last week (so much cannot in one hour, don't get me started), the first 30 seconds of this video featuring Sophie Turner (a.k.a. Sansa) might make up for it.

Before I get to the fan geeky part - I am leaving for a week vacation to Paris next Friday! Eeeeeeeeee! Just thought I'd flail about that for a second, in case anyone hadn't heard yet.

And now meta!

On Tumblr I made a casual remark (which I've said a few times) that a lot of my favorite scenes in BSG hinged on pronouns, and [info]sunshine_queen asked me to elaborate, so I'm copying it over here. :)

at least 9 BSG scenes off the top of my head that made me flail about pronouns )

I'd like to add that of all of these, the one that crushes me into tiny, heartbroken, shoooow-loving pieces is Gina's "you" three times in a row. And the first time it's not clear, because she WAS just asking him to kill her a second ago, so maybe she's still talking about that, but then she's not.

Like can we just DEAL with the accusatory nature of that, with Pegasus-as-all-humanity? And can we also deal with that de-personalized reflection of every "you" spoken to a Cylon by a human because everyone = their entire race somehow, because the specifics may change but there's something fundamentally alike and tainted in whoever your Other is? And can we also deal with Baltar, who is going through a lot and who's also already prone to making everything all about him, who can't help taking that as personally and painfully and literally as possible? (And what she's implying - about him specifically, the way he hears it - is so wrong, until in hindsight it's not ENTIRELY wrong?)

THERE HAVE BEEN REAMS AND REAMS OF DIALOGUE IN ENTIRE SEASONS OF TV SHOWS THAT DIDN'T PACK THE EMOTIONAL PUNCH THAT ONE WORD DID, I'M JUST SAYING.
